to go, just remember to do what you need to, welcome back!

I thought I had done everything needed...but I'll recheck my

    Jon,

Like I said before I've been in the hospital, also, I've been
moving around a lot, even in a new town now which I'm enjoying
so far, glad to do a little travel time and get into a new
    environment.

    Jon,

    Yeah, I am 49 afterall, I don't have 24/7 hours of time
everyday to stare at the screen watching everything all the
time as I did when I was younger. The good point is that I
never gave up regardless of the headaches it caused keeping it
online and keeping it going. I'm happy to keep it around all
this time and for everyone that has everyone and anyone that
has participated. I plan on keeping it going a long time from
    now as the net allows.

I had to take the time off due to burn-out, but I'm glad I didn't
just delete everything, and say "forget it".

Getting old is not for sissies...and if you call me a sissy, I'll
hit you with my purse. <G>

You're right. It's not fun either, but it does have its good
sides sometimes. If you get hit with a purse expect to get hit
with a cane afterwards. :) Us oldies stick together. :)

And, I want those senior citizen discounts. :)

I think of the sequence from Rowan And Martin's Laugh-in 50 years
ago (I'm really showing my age now <G>), with Ruth Buzzi, and Artie
Johnson. The "dirty old man" was always flirting with "the frail
old lady", and he usually got beat with her cane. There were 2
    that stick in my mind.

    1) She's trying to avoid him, and he told her that he wanted to
ask her a question. The question was "Do you believe in the
hereafter??". When she said "Of course I do", he replied "Then,
you know what I'm here after"!! -- and she proceeds to whack the
    daylights out of him!! <G>

    2) Another time, he's flirting with her, and all I remember is
her reply of "I'd love to, you dirty old man!!" <G>.

You bet your sweet bippy I loved that show. :)

In 2008, I stopped running my BBS for a couple months (after running Synchronet for a bit over a year), thinking it wasn't being used much. I kept a backup though, and I started it up again in early 2009, and I'm glad I did. I haven't stopped running it since.

It was worse than that bad. Unable to connect to the hub, and zero
responses from you via netmail, email, bbs comments, etc. Connection
ports on your system(s) changed with no notice given. Your system(s)
down more often than up. My login credentials (account) just

His FidoNet issues were exactly the same, and he eventually got fired
    from those positions, thankfully.

Fidonet was going great for awhile

No, it wasn't. You had a dozen or more useless/invalid nodelist
entries, seemingly just to see how many times your name would appear in
the nodelist. Just like above, near zero connectivity for anyone.

until the hospital visit and being absence from the scene for awhile,

With no notice/reason/explanation ever given. Just disappeared.

I wasn't really fired, the whole region got removed. Fix your facts man.

My facts are fine. The whole region got removed because it was
completely broken. Almost entirely dead nodes made up that region, and
you made ZERO effort to fix things. The facts are that you *WERE* fired
for incompetency. Anyone knowledgeable in FidoNet knows that.

Here's a prediction for ya: Assuming *anyone* re-joins the dead WEN
network, you will do exactly the same thing again - mis-manage it right
back into the ground. Watch and see.

Some folks are never happy...yet, they can't stand these 2 truths:

"Life Is Not Fair Or Burger King".

Fair is a fall carnival, a weather term, and a call in baseball.

And, you can NOT always "Have It Your Way" (having worked for them
for 5 years nearly 50 years ago, I can say that).

Another one is "when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and
    lemonade meringue pie".

While the lemonade would give me canker sores in my mouth, that
    lemon meringue pie sounds good.

And, while I don't know much about a Raspberry Pi, a pineapple
    upside down cheesecake sounds delicious.

MySpace sort of did that by allowing users to customize their MySpace page with HTML and CSS styling, as well as music. I've heard a lot of people actually didn't like the inconsistency of everyone's profile pages though. I guess individuality and personalization isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Livejournal had a whole template system customizable with CSS. Made for a nice hybrid between a blog platform and a social network. I just logged onto LJ, still see some friends' posts.

It saddens me to look back at LJ; two of my friends IRL and on LJ have passed away in the years since we hung out there. It was a simpler time, definitely.

The Blog Era in the early 2000s was fun; I was living and working in San Francisco, LiveJournal had an office there, Wordpress and Moveable Type were there as well. The Tmobile Sidekick started a "moblog" trend, with people posting low-res photos from their "smart" phones. Blogger, too, I think - this was before they were bought by Google. Interesting times.

Livejournal had a whole template system customizable with CSS. Made for a nice hybrid between a blog platform and a social network. I just logged onto LJ, still see some friends' posts.

That's cool. I didn't know (or remember) LiveJournal allowed that kind of customization.

It saddens me to look back at LJ; two of my friends IRL and on LJ have passed away in the years since we hung out there. It was a simpler time, definitely.

    That's sad. :(

Yeah, I used to use LiveJournal back then, and then my contacts/friends there moved to MySpace and/or Facebook (later). I enjoyed using LiveJournal.

The main reason I'm using Facebook now is that's what most my friends & family use. I would have stayed on LiveJournal or MySpace if they were there instead. Sometimes I wonder what makes a certain social network so popular, and why Facebook has been so popular for so long now. To me, it basically seems like basically the same thing, but different site.

MySpace sort of did that by allowing users to customize their MySpace page with HTML and CSS styling, as well as music. I've heard a lot of people actually didn't like the inconsistency of everyone's profile pages though. I guess individuality and personalization isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I really did love customizing the MySpace page I had years back, although BBSing has always been consistant. I admire the authors of Synchronet and Mystic for keeping it oup to date and still being able to call in with a good terminal like SyncTerm or Netrunner. I haven't really had a chance to tinker with the latest updates like more calumns or anything fancy, just the plain terminal with a little color and I'm good to go.

I'm sorry to hear that. And if you're still able to count your
blessings and find joy in something in life, despite the sad &
    negative things you've experienced, I think that's a good
    thing.

I feel better going full bore with my hobbies, as it beats doing
nothing all day. Of course, when thunderstorms are around, all the
    computer stuff is offline.

In a way that kinda reminds me of my ex-wife.. :P

Sounds like the joke where the spouse says to her partner (after
they said they need to quit doing certain things), "you sound like
my ex. I didn't know you were married before"...and they reply "I
    wasn't". <G>

I finally figured out how to get the DOORWAY utility working on

    to the BBS.

But, I'm still looking for the SyncWx, Solar-Data, and CAPTCHA doors/utilities for Synchronet. The GitHub address I got just took

DoorWay is normally only needed if you want to run regular (non-door) programs on a BBS, as a door.

But, I'm still looking for the SyncWx, Solar-Data, and CAPTCHA doors/utilities for Synchronet. The GitHub address I got just took

No problem. Stock is something to work with though, just make little customs every once in awhile, it'll be looking sweet before too long. Either way, I'd call, looking around for more boards to call on a daily basis.

Very nice! It feels incrediable once you get something working you've worked on for awhile on sometimes. One thing I like about the BBS scene is adding in new mods and door games or something.

I'm thankful Lord Time is still taking care of the QWK portion of WhisperNet. My board has been up and down the last month. I've moved from Topeka, to Gardner, KS, on Apr 2 I have lyrnax cancer surgery, I'm still hanging in there, but it's rough. I know I'm still going to get hate mail regardless of my health conditions, nothing I can do about that, regardless, those that know me and still care, I'm still hanging in there and keeping my boards up the best I can, and keeping in contact with Lord Time regarding the QWK side of WhisperNet. I love the BBS scene and all it involves, although I've moved to a new nursing hospital rehab home this last couple of weeks after having surgery and having a trache surgerically implanted in my throat so I can breathe, that's the status so far, I plan on getting a scan of any remaining cancer in my body on March 26, and then go in for surgery Apr 2. I'll know more results after that. It's been a struggle to eat and stuff, but I'm still able to get in and shower, do my daily routines and stuff, just can't really go anywhere due to my health condition. I do enjoy this nursing home a lot better than the last one. My last one only has 2kbps downstream and this place has 80kbps. Hey it's free wifi with a ssh reverse tunnel to connect, at least that's something.
